Cebu to send 2 teams to POF tournament

LAST year only one football team represented Cebu in the 16-under category in the Philippine Olympic Festival, this year two squads are headed for Dumaguete to compete in the Visayas qualifying games on July 23 to 27.

One group, the Cebu Province team, is represented by Abellana National School (ANS) headed by Coach Francis Ramirez while the other, the Cebu City squad, is represented by Paref-Springdale handled by Coach Mario Ceniza.

ANS recently won the 15-Under division of the 8th Cebu Interclub Football Cup while Paref-Springdale was a runnerup in this year’s Palarong Pambansa.

Both teams are toughening up their squads with reinforcements from University of Southern Philippines Foundation, Cebu International School, Sacred Heart School of Jesuits, FC Inter Lapu-Lapu and Don Bosco Boys Home.

Meanwhile, the 14-Under squad will be represented by the Don Bosco Technological Center under the leadership of Coach Joselito Bono.
The Cebu teams will be departing for Dumaguete on July 22.

The top three teams of the POF Visayas Qualifying tournament will be sent to the National Championships on Oct. 16 to 20 and go up against the best football teams in the country.

Last year, Coach Glen Ramos’ led Don Bosco team emerged victorious in the National Championship after defeating the powerhouse Iloilo team, 1-0, in the final game. (EKA)
