Bike driver killed in Catmon crash
A MOTORCYCLE driver trying to overtake another motorcycle crashed head on into a running Ceres Bus in Barangay Catmon Daan, Catmon town and died.
The incident happened along the highway at past 9 a.m. Saturday.
A report submitted to the Cebu Provincial Police Office stated that the motorcycle driven by Gerwin Felix Bernal, 22, was negotiating a curve in the road.
Bernal, an employee of Nikkei Pollution Test Co. based in Mandaue City, was driving a red Honda Wave motorcycle with plate number GR-3345 headed north.
When he reached the area, at a curved part of the road, he tried to overtake another motorcycle.
In the process, he got into the opposite lane.
All of a sudden, an oncoming Ceres bus, with plate number JVJ 523 came into view.
Bernal tried to return to his lane but it was too late. The motorcycle crashed into the front part of the bus, dragging Bernal a few meters away from the point of impact.
The motorcycle was also damaged.
Bernal was rushed to the Sogod District Hospital but Dr. Edilberto Yano declared him dead.
He was taken to the Noelsan Funeral Homes in Barangay Corazon, Catmon.
Bus driver Vicente Balicas Pios, 41, was detained at the Catmon Police Station. (MEA)
