Tuesday, July 15, 2008 Calderon rules Mini ROK class
JETTE Calderon have been in the shadows in the past month but last weekend, he made sure to get out of the shadows and into the limelight as he won the Mini ROK class of the Kartzone Karting Series Suzuka Cup last Sunday at the Kartzone Race track.
Calderon, who has had his shot in the international and national scene, claimed the top plum after outclassing fellow little speed devils themselves, the Carcel siblings Kali and Tonyo, who settled for runners up finishes this time.
Kali, the only girl in the field, won the title last month over the other two in another competition.
Meanwhile, Paco Rodriguez, another junior karting stalwart, asserted his dominance after winning in the KT 100 event.
Rodriguez, who was named the 2006 Karter of the Year in the national arena, posted the fastest lap time of 27.48 seconds, just a few milliseconds from eventual second and third placers Patrick Gandionco and Cebu’s karting benefactor Jess Garcia.
Gandionco registered his best lap at 27.56, while Garcia’s had 27.76 seconds. (MCB)
