Explorers beat Batang Global in final

THE Pagadian Explorers took its second leg title after a one-sided 83-56 win over the unsuspecting Taguig Batang Global in the Zamboanga leg of the 2008 Liga Pilipinas Championships Tour at the Zamboanga City Gym last Sunday.

Pagadian’s win shot them to the top of the team standings, overtaking the idle M. Lhuillier-Cebu Niños with 29 points after accumulating an additional 12 points in the Zamboanga leg.

Placing behind the Niños was Taguig who managed to salvage seven points for a total of 23 to dislodge another idle team the Smart Pampanga Buddies.

Pampanga has 20 tour points.

Best player

Pagadian started the game hot, outscoring the Batang Global 21-7 behind the efforts of Zamboanga leg Best Player Erian Daja and Mark Yee and never looked back to win its second leg title in three tries.

Pagadian shot 34-of-64 from the field, while Taguig struggled with a 22-of-73 shooting clip.

In Lipa City, Batangas, the home team Lipa Barakos defeated the Tagaytay-Cavite Heroes, 81-72, for its first leg title.

In the battle for third, the Ilocos Sur Bravehearts needed extra five minutes to beat Zamboanga Amores, 94-85, in overtime to win third place in Zamboanga leg, while Baguio Victory turned back Iloilo Mang Inasals, 85-80, for third in the Lipa leg.
