VINCE Mark Tabotabo completed his impressive run in California following two more emphatic victories that led to his winning the Twin Arbors Junior Tennis Open title yesterday at the Twin Arbors Athletic Club.
Tabotabo of Tuburan proved that his win over California’s top-seeded player in the division, Jacob Zetlin, in the Laguna Creek competition last summer was not just because of sheer luck as he repeated the exploit yesterday.
In the Laguna Creek event, Tabotabo’s win over Zetlin was a huge deal as the diminutive Tabotabo was the only foreigner in the event and he came out on top by defeating players touted to be better than him.
Yesterday, Tabotabo and Zetlin met again, this time in the semifinals of the Twin Arbors competition, where he once more served the upset axe on the American with a 6-0, 6-0 bashing, to move to the final round.
Buoyed up by the win, Tabotabo completed his exploit by upsetting yet another seeded player, Joshua Lin, who is ranked third in the event, 7-5, 6-3, in the title round.
Lin entered the final round after defeating Winston Limhengco of Sacramento California, 6-3, 6-3 in the semifinals. Zetlin later settled for the third place diadem after winning over Limhengco in three sets, 7-6 (5), 2-6, 6-0. (MCB)
