Pacman, Soto likely if former stays on title

A title fight between Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao and Humberto Soto is possible, that is if the Filipino superstar decides to keep his World Boxing Council super featherweight title and hand over his WBC lightweight crown.

In a report posted at philboxing.com,WBC President Jose Sulaiman confirmed that Pacquiao still holds the WBC super featherweight belt and was given until July 28 to decide which belt he would relinquish, the WBC super featherweight title which he won from Juan Manuel Marquez last March 14 or the WBC lightweight crown which he acquired from David Diaz from a stunning 8th round knockout last June 28.

Announcement

“The present double WBC world champion at lightweight and super featherweight, Manny Pacquiao of the Philippines, must announce by July 28 which title he has decided to keep. If he decides to relinquish the lightweight division title and keep the super featherweight title, Soto must fight Pacquiao for the WBC super featherweight world title, with Lorenzo fighting the winner,” stated Sulaiman in a press release from WBC news.

Soto and Francisco Lorenzo fought for the interim WBC super featherweight title as an undercard for the Pacquiao-Diaz battle. The bout resulted in a controversial disqualification win by Lorenzo but was later resolved in a no contest by WBC.

Pacquiao’s next bout is slated on Nov. 15 at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas who as of now doesn’t have a definite opponent.

Meanwhile, the “Lethal Combination” fight card, which featured the bout of Pacquiao and Diaz, had a total ticket sale of $3,350,730 from 9,630 boxing fans who paid to see the boxing extravaganza at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas according to report by boxingconfidential.com. (EKA)
