Robbery suspect arrives in Cebu

ONE of the suspects in the P2 million robbery of La Nueva Supermart last year arrived in Cebu City last night.

Danilo Flores, also known as George Avila, arrived in Lapu-Lapu City on board a domestic flight from Manila.

He was escorted by a team of police operatives from the National Capital Region Police Office. He was fetched by Chief Insp. Arnel Banzon and Senior Insp. George Ylanan of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO).

At the CCPO headquarters in Camp Sotero Cabahug, Flores was subjected to a tactical interview by members of the Theft and Robbery Section. He was not yet available for media interview last night.

CCPO Director Patro-cinio Comendador, in an interview with reporters, said Flores will be presented to the court today to return the warrant of arrest for robbery with homicide issued against him for allegedly participating in the La Nueva heist last August.

Casimero “Meloy” Garcia, Cresencio “Brutz” Reguya, Danilo Flores and a still unidentified man were charged with robbing a Metrobank teller of P2,291,753 in La Nueva Supermart cash sales on Aug. 13, 2007. Escort guard Procoro Esguerra died of injuries sustained during the robbery while Medard Rama, another escort guard, was injured.

Flores, along with suspected robbery gang leader Roy Fernandez, was arrested early this month in Pasay City after a shootout with police.

Comendador said Flores was charged with illegal possession of firearms in relation to his arrest in Pasay City.

Since the case he is facing in Cebu City is heavier than that in Metro Manila, he was sent here to face the charges filed against him.

In his initial talk with Flores last night, Comen-dador said the former security guard admitted participation in the La Nueva heist. (JST)
