Shootings, stabbings keep police busy
THREE shootings, three stabbings and one dead person alarm kept the team of investigators-on-duty of the Homicide Section up the whole night Tuesday and early morning yesterday.
The first shooting incident took place in Sitio San Roque, Mambaling at 8 p.m. Tuesday.
The victim, who survived in the attack, was identified by PO1 Lou Pagara of the Homicide Section as Nolito S. Sevilla, 25, a dispatcher near Fuente Osmeña.
Sevilla was riding a jeepney on his way home to Sitio Tabaska, Basak San Nicolas when he noticed three motorcycles tailing him on the jeepney. All the six men on the motorcycles wore black helmets and black jackets.
The motorcycles went ahead of the jeepney but stopped few meters away.
One of the passengers of the motorcycle alighted, went straight to Sevilla and shot him thrice but missed.
Sevilla scampered to safety by running to a nearby house.
The gunman, however, allegedly shouted for Sevilla to come out, which he heeded. The gunman shot Sevilla again but he was able to cover his face with a belt.
Sevilla, who suffered wounds in the left index finger and right middle finger acted dead, prompting the gunman to flee.
PO1 Pagara told Sun.Star Cebu yesterday that Sevilla did not know what the motive in the attack was. Pagara said Sevilla confided to him that he had spent several jail terms in the Cebu City Jail.
Pagara said his team is still conducting further investigation to identify the gunman and his accomplices.
Based on the records gathered by Sun.Star Cebu from the Cebu City Jail, Sevilla was jailed four times on different offenses.
He was first jailed on January 10, 2002 for illegal possession of firearm. He was released on probation on Aug. 13, 2002.
He went back to the city jail last Oct. 1, 2003 for a child abuse case but was released on Feb. 5, 2004, after the case was dismissed.
On Jan. 5, 2005, Sevilla was again jailed for a slight physical injury charge. He went out of jail on Feb. 8 of the same year on summary rules of procedure.
Sevilla was also jailed from May 30, 2005 to Oct. 1, 2007 after he was convicted of acts of lasciviousness case.
An hour after the shooting in Mambaling, another shooting happened in Sitio Arco, Barangay Punta Princesa.
Gaspas R. Cuyamen, 42, a construction worker was taken to Cebu City Medical Center for three gunshot wounds in the back.
Cuyamen was about to buy cigarette sticks when an unidentified man shot him. As of yesterday, the Homicide Section is still investigating the incident.

The man died before reaching the city hospital. He had two gunshot wounds in the head. The man was described to be medium built, of fair complexion, curly hair, about 25 to 30 years old and was wearing short pants and T-shirt.
A homemade .38 revolver loaded with two bullets was found by the homicide investigators at the crime scene.

Despite an injury in the abdomen, Jumao-as managed to run home and ask his mother to bring him to the hospital.
He was first taken to Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center but was later transferred to the city hospital.
The minor suspect later gave himself up to SPO2 Wilfredo Costelo of the Guadalupe Police Station.
Thirty minutes after, 38-year-old Ronald C. Sebial was also treated for a wound in the left ear after a habal-habal driver stabbed him with a screwdriver.
The incident was triggered by an argument on a motorcycle.
