Best third man for AJ-Raffy fight

REFEREE Raul Caiz Jr. of US was named the third man in the ring of the much awaited AJ “Bazooka” Banal and Rafael “El Torito” Concepcion World Boxing Association super flyweight title war on July 26 at the Cebu Coliseum.

WBO Rating Committee Chairman Jose Oliver Gomez sent an email yesterday to International matchmaker Sampson Leckowicz and informed that Caiz Jr. would be the referee for the main event bout of the “Laban Na Banal: Panahon Na” fight card.

Caiz Jr. is a renowned referee in the sport of boxing and has officiated fights of famed pugilists like the six division world champion “Golden Boy” Oscar de la Hoya, four division titleholder Roy Jones Jr. and Bernard “The Executioner” Hopkins.

He has also presided fights of Rafael Marquez, Juan Diaz, Julio Cesar Chavez, Felix Sturm, Jorge Arce, Fernando Montiel, Brian Viloria and the WBO minimum weight title bout between Donnie “Ahas” Nietes and Pornsawan Krating-daenggym last Sept. 9 at the Waterfront Hotel and Casino.

Other officials assigned for the Banal-Concepcion title match is Korean Yang Sup Shim who will be the fight supervisor while Phillipe Verbeke of Belgium, Francisco Martinez of New Zealand and Charlen Prayasab were chosen as judges.

The officiating officials for the July 26 boxing extravaganza will be arriving two days before fight date on July 24 and will be staying at the Waterfront Hotel and Casino.

Also seeing action in this blockbuster fight card are Milan “Milenyo” Melindo who will gunning for the World Boxing Association Intercontinental minimum weight crown against Panamanian warrior Carlos Melo, Michael Domingo who will be fighting for the vacant WBO bantamweight title against Rivo Rengkung of Indonesia and ALA boy James bacon who will be trading leathers with Vacharakit Senakarn of Thailand.
