Friday, July 18, 2008 Morales ready for big-time fights
IF they succeed in their upcoming war on July 19, “Collision at the Coliseum”, Ciso “Kid Terrible” Morales, Ranee “KO Kid” Ganoy and Bert “Ninja” Batawang will be rewarded by SGG Promotions’ Sammy Gello-ani with first-rate promotional opportunities in the future.
The young rising talent Morales, who will be defending his World Boxing Organization Oriental feather weight title against Thai Narongnoi Or Muanklang, will be given an opportunity to fight in a blockbuster fight card in Lanao del Norte which features the title defense of WBO bantamweight titleholder Gerry “Fearless” Peñalosa.
“If will have an impressive performance he will be given a chance to defend his title in an undercard for Gerry,” said promoter Sammy Gello-ani in a press conference at the GV Tower Hotel yesterday.
Morales assured the boxing fans that he will put up an exciting performance when he battles in Cebu for the first time in his two-year professional career.
“I will put up a good show. I will try my best to defend my belt,” said Morales “I can promise the fans a knockout,” he added.
Morales’ manager Keneth Rontal is certain that the Cebuanos will see a much improved Morales who has been sparring with veteran journeyman Pedro Malco.
“Ciso has been improving his strength, stamina and his footwork. His performance will be much more impressive than what he showed in Araneta,” told Rontal.
Morales has been preparing for this skirmish for two months and has sparred more than 100 rounds according to his trainer Bennie de la Peña.
Meanwhile, for Ganoy an explosive performance will get him the chance to fight in the US.
“Our next step for Ranee is a program for him in the US,” said Gello-ani.
Ganoy will be the main supporting event and will trading fists with Sapapetch Sor Sakaorat.
The 28-year-old has been successfully campaigning in Australia and has returned to the Philippines after four years to fight in Cebu for the first time.
Ganoy has long been itching for a world title shot and he plans to start by fighting Julio Diaz, the former IBF lightweight champion.
“I will train hard so that I can achieve my dream of a world title shot. And my target for now is Julio Diaz,” said Ganoy.
In the meantime, Batawang will get another world title shot in the months to come if he triumphs over his enemy Benjie Soralla.
“If Bert maintains his status he will be given a world title shot in the next few months,” assured Gello-ani.
Batawang failed in his first title match against International light flyweight king Ulises Solis who turned off his lights in the ninth round of their bout last year.
The 36-year old WBO Oriental titlist, who is ranked 8th in WBO, is confident that nothing will stand in his way of another world title shot in the months to come not even Soralla.
“If he gets hit by my fist he will go down,” a confident Batawang said. (EKA)
