Travel, tourism group attracts more industry players in Cebu

SKAL International Cebu welcomed four new members during its general membership meeting last July 11 at Pagcor Mactan.

This set the club on the right track to fulfilling the promise it made during its 18th anniversary celebration last March to be the only Skal Club in the world to achieve a 100 percent growth by October 2008 before the World Congress in Taipei.

“We are right on target and we hope to set this record with no compromises.

In fact, we have been inducting members of the highest caliber—from general managers of international hotel chains to managers of top GDS; from deans of top hospitality schools to tourism commissioners,” said Charles Lim, Skal International Cebu president and Skal International councilor for the Philippines.

He said that with four new members—Shangri-La’s Mactan Resort and Spa general manager Raymond Bragg, Mactan-Cebu Airport Authority public affairs manager Ahmed Cuizon, Alegre Beach Resort General Manager Fritz Kahler and Badian Island Resort and Spa chairman Hartwig Scholz—the 100 percent target will surely not be a problem.

“We like to invite everyone to join Skal, the only international organization uniting all members of the travel and tourism industry,” said Lim.

Skal members are managers or executives directly involved in tourism management, sales and promotions, in specified travel and tourism businesses, including: transportation (airlines, cruise lines, railways, ferries), travel and tour operators and agencies, tourism organizations, governments and non-government tourism councils, hotels, convention centers and travel media.

At present, Skål International has approximately 23,000 members in 500 clubs throughout 87 nations. In the Philippines, there are Skal chapters in Cebu, Makati, Manila, Bacolod and Davao, with Skal clubs soon to be formed in Boracay, Subic and Iloilo. (PR)
