Tuesday, July 22, 2008 Teener shot in village walk, robbery probed
A 17-YEAR-OLD boy is in critical condition after he was shot, in what police believed could be a case of a robbery, while walking along Bayanihan Village in Barangay Basak Pardo, Cebu City past noon yesterday.
Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) Director Patrocinio Comendador immediately ordered Senior Insp. George Ylanan of the Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Bureau and Senior Insp. Michael Anthony Bastes of the Theft and Robbery Section to help the Homicide Section in the investigation.
SPO1 Roger Nedamo of the Homicide Section said he was able to identify the victim through the hospital nurse.
Robbery
The boy (name withheld for being a minor) is a high school graduate, who is a native of Bantayan Island, Cebu.
He lives with his aunt in Bayanihan Village.
Nedamo, team leader of the responding homicide investigators, said they are looking into robbery as possible motive in the incident.
According to the information gathered by Nedamo’s team from an errand boy of an eatery near the crime scene, the victim was tinkering on his cellular phone while walking along the road when a man, who has been tailing him, pulled out a gun.
Shot
The gunman shot the victim in the head. The slug exited in the victim’s forehead. As of 6 p.m., Nedamo said, the boy is still under observation.
The gunman then snatched the cellular phone from the victim’s hand and fled towards the national highway.
The gunman was described to be wearing a yellow T-shirt and a pair of dark green short pants, about 20 to 30 years old, medium built and about 5’5” to 5’7” in height. (JST)
