Pardo shooting victim dies in hospital

THE 17-year-old boy who was shot in Bayanihan Village, Basak Pardo, Cebu City died after fighting for his life for more than six hours. Another teenager was shot and killed about eight hours later.

SPO1 Roger Nedamo of the Homicide Section said that Clint Florida, who suffered a gunshot wound in the head, died at 6:10 p.m. Monday inside the Cebu City Medical Center.

Florida, who hailed from Bantayan Island but temporarily lived with his aunt in Bayanihan Village, was shot by an unidentified man past noon last Monday.

At least two witnesses said that the gunman took Florida’s cellular phone after the shooting.

However, investigators from the Homicide Section, Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Bureau, Pardo Police Station and Theft and Robbery Section found out from Florida’s kin that the victim had no cellular phone.

Conflicting reports

“We have received two conflicting reports. There is a question now on where he got the cell phone, if he did have one,” said Cebu City Police Director Patrocinio Comendador, who asked the investigators to work on the case.

Comendador also asked the investigators to check Florida’s background in Bantayan to see if they can find clues on what motivated the attack.

With the help of witnesses, Comendador said, the investigating team has already come up with a sketch of the gunman.

About eight hours after Florida died, a 16-year-old boy died in a shooting incident in Sitio Bagong Buhay, Barangay Carreta, Cebu City.

PO1 Lou Pagara of the Homicide Section identified the victim as Mark Tagalog Tobias, a first year high school student, who lived in the neighboring Sitio Malinaw and was killed past 2 a.m. yesterday.

The Homicide Section believes that the incident was gang-related.

Two men on a red XRM motorcycle, described as being in their early 20s with red handkerchiefs visible in the pockets of their pants, were said to have shot Tobias.

According to the information gathered by the Homicide Section investigators from Tobias’ companions, Jess Brian Demecillo, 18, and a 17-year-old boy, they were drinking liquor past 2 a.m. along with another friends, who were members of a gang, when a motorcycle arrived.

Misfire

At gunpoint, the riders asked them if they were gang members.

The passenger of the motorcycle reportedly tried to shoot Demecillo and the 17-year-old boy, but the gun misfired.

As the suspects were about to flee, Demecillo got hold of an empty bottle and threw it at the fleeing motorcycle.

The motorcycle turned back, and the group scrambled away.

Before Tobias could run away, the gunman, however, shot him thrice. Tobias was hit in the body. The slug exited through his abdomen.

Tobias was taken to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center but died on the way there. (JST)
