Eala shuns word war with Cesafi

SAMAHANG Basketball ng Pilipinas Executive Director Noli Eala do not want to engage in publicity stunts and would rather stay away from the word war with the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi)

“Wag na natin sagutin in public. They should just present their case to the ethics committee,” (We won’t answer them in public) Eala told Sun.Star-Cebu yesterday.

University of Cebu representative to the board and one of the movers of the creation of Cesafi, Baldomero Estenzo, earlier said that Cesafi had no liability when they chose to participate and cooperate with the BAP-SBP-organized Asian University Basketball Championships last July 5 to 12 here.

No violation

Estenzo claimed that what Cesafi did was not a violation. Cesafi also is not liable to any loyalty check.

“If that is their position, then I respect that. But they should present it formally (to the ethics committee),” Eala added.

According to Estenzo SBP under the leadership of communication mogul Manny V. Pangilinan has no programs yet, while some are still in the planning stages.

However Eala had earlier announced the first project of the SBP – which is the Nokia Manila Youth Invitational Championships from Aug. 14 to 17 at the Cuneta Astrodome in Pasig City.

Test

Where the current Philippine Youth squad will be tested against the Youth Teams of the Peoples Republic of China, Chinese-Taipei and Lithuania.

And before the end of the year, the SBP National Juniors Championships will be staged.

“We still have to discuss when Cesafi will face the Ethics Committee but they will be called to explain. As I earlier said, we just want to clear some issues and we are not trying to alienate our members, we just want to hear their reasons,” stressed Eala. (RCM)
