HE has found an empire of goddesses in the City of Angels.
Style springs forth during their annual arrival on the red carpet. For fashion designer Jonas Navarro, it’s also when inspiration sparks the most. And just like the rest of the observers, he chants in their honor: “Let the stars shine down.”
“I (have) derived the inspiration from the glitz and glamour of Hollywood A-list actresses during the Oscars,” says Navarro.
“I (have) derived the inspiration from the glitz and glamor of Hollywood A-list actresses during the Oscars,” says Navarro.
Oscars or the Academy Awards is an annual recognition of the stars or celebrities, including directors, writers, and cinematographers in the professional film industry. Hollywood, a district in Los Angeles (named as the City of Angels), is its accustomed venue.
“The likes of Nicole Kidman, who has always been a goddess when it comes to dressing up at the Oscars, and so with Gwyneth Paltrow, Charlize Theron, and Halle Berry,” he continues.
To subdue sparkling details, Navarro cuts basic yet body-hugging silhouettes that “flatter the female figure.” It is achieved through a full-skirt gown or, it could be detailed with a fishtail bottom.
“I would say my style is the marriage of elegance and sophistication equals glamour,” explains Navarro.
Luxurious fabrics, such as stretched jersey and French lace, elaborate the feminine combination of shapes with fluidity (any material on the dress that seemingly flows) and volume.
Retaining simple cuts allows the woman to emanate her personality and clothing taste through color options. According to Navarro, nude tones could add sophistication; black, when combined with white prints, could create a dramatic outfit. And cobalt blue is for women “who posses power in dressing.”
Whether simple or elaborate styling, the final verdict lies in the accessories: they could either make or break the wearer.
Navarro agrees that even a simple pair of earrings, a necklace, or a bracelet completes the dress. However, he also admits that accessories can be a “fashion disaster” if mismatched.
“I’d love to see neon colors for the next season, and more of the 80s twist,” Navarro shares his fashion forecast for 2009.
“As an artist, ideas just flow like a streamdown a river.”
When Navarro was younger, the dream of becoming a fashion designer started. Now, that dream has developed into a fearless vision: to see Naomi Campbell, Kate Moss, and Daria Welbowy wear his designs on the catwalk.
And it is not impossible for Jonas Navarro, a follower of creativity, to bring his gospel from Cebu to Hollywood.
