4 golf pros compete for charity

FOUR golf professionals will battle it out today at the Alta Vista Golf and Country Club, not for glory, but for charity in the Y101 Skins for Heart.

This skins event, which is the first of its kind in Cebu, will feature Gerald Rosales, Gerard Cantada, Marlon Dizon, and veteran Roger Retuerto.

The skins game originated in the early days of golf when fur traders would put their goods on the line as prize, thus the name skins came about.

Today, the players will be playing for money or prizes in kind for each hole. The proceeds will go to the victims of typhoon Frank.

Those who would like to watch the event can do so. Tee off time is 9 a.m. The first 50 junior golfers to sign up at the Y101 booth that would be set up at the golfers’ lounge of Alta Vista will get giveaways.

Golf Punk magazines will also be given to those who would be watching the game.

Those who would like to hand their donation for the typhoon victims can drop them off at the Y101 booth, which will be manned by winners of Miss Cebu 2008. Donations are also accepted at the radio station located at the 2nd floor of the Gaisano Country Mall.

This event is sponsored by ICTSI, Armscor, the First Gentleman Foundation, LBC, Pagcor, PCSO and Alta Vista.

Also supporting the competition are the Sportswriters Association of Cebu (SAC), Dos Mestizos, San Sebastian Sardines, Nissan, Petron, Loft, Enervon E and the Philippine Sports Commission. (Pooled Report)
