Monday, July 28, 2008 Kids’ corner set at action center
A PORTION of the busy action center inside the Cebu City Sports Complex was made into a child care corner of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) for a week.
Relatives of the missing passengers of the mv Princess of the Stars were able to leave their children at the DSWD corner while they waited for news on their loved ones.
The temporary facility accommodated infants and children while parents from far places like Luzon, Mindanao, Oriental Negros, Bohol, Siquijor, Cebu island municipalities were busy processing their documents or undergoing defusing with social workers and other service providers.
Day care workers from Cebu City and nongovernment organization volunteers like the Salvation Army and Boy Scouts of Philippines took turns in facilitating activities for children like games, group reading, writing and drawing.
The facilitators also served them snacks.
The center was equipped with colorful toys, children’s books, toy equipment, hot milk, biscuits, juice and even diapers.
