Tuesday, July 29, 2008 Prolific and Versatile By Ritchie Landis Doner Quijano
WHEN you’re a prolific painter it can’t be helped if you are versatile as well.
And versatility often clashes with consistency. But being too consistent and doing just one thing over and over again (like routine) can be jading.
The artist Jose Brillo “Jobril” Villaver chose being both prolific and versatile. Villaver is one of the early graduates of the University of the Philippines Fine Arts program.
He earned his Certificate in Fine Arts from the school in 1980. Villaver is a multi-skilled visual artist whose experience ranges from pure painting and mold making to the applied arts of furniture and product design.
But his work doesn’t stop there for he, too, does interior designs for office and living spaces. It is why his resume reflects the whole gamut of art and design having worked with several export companies.
Truly Villaver is a portrait of an artist who is continuously evolving and inventing like a research and development technician. So who knows where the artist will take his art next.
