FILIPINO ring idol Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao believes that he has an excellent chance in defeating the legendary “Golden Boy” Oscar De La Hoya even if the odds are stacked against him.
Pacquiao is smaller, shorter and has a huge disadvantage in reach but he has put a lot of thought into it and feels that the older De La Hoya, who is his proposed opponent in a blockbuster boxing event in December, is beatable.
“The truth is, a lot of people are saying that Oscar, the ‘Golden Boy’ of boxing, really has all the advantages in a fight. He is bigger, taller, heftier and has a longer reach. I have been thinking about fighting him and I think there is quite a good chance of beating him,” Pacquiao wrote in Filipino in his column at Philboxing.com.
At 29 the four division champion feels he has to make the best of the remainder of his illustrious career by fighting the best in the industry to seal his legacy in history as a great boxer.
“I’m not getting any younger and I want to get the one of the biggest fights out there to cement my legacy in boxing,” wrote the World Boxing Council lightweight king.
Pacquiao is in Las Vegas right now to meet with Top Rank promoter Bob Arum and discuss his decision on this matter.
Training
If the dream fight will push through, Manny Pacquiao will allot two and a half months and will embark on the most rigid training in his whole professional career.
“I think I have to be in the best condition of my career and I have to devote two and a half months to prepare for this. Just like my preparation for Marco Antonio Barrera in 2003,” Pacquiao wrote.
It was during his stunning 11th round upset of Barrera that Pacquiao catapulted into the world’s elite boxers. (EKA)
