2 ‘jealous’ husbands kill wives; one suspect, 64, catches wife with ‘lover,’ 21 By Mia E. Abellana Sun.Star Staff Reporter
TWO women were killed by their “jealous” husbands in two separate incidents in Cebu Province over the weekend.
In Barangay Talisay, Santander town, retired public school teacher Alberto Pitel Abiso claimed he caught his wife twice with her 21-year-old lover.
Abiso, 64, would have fled to the neighboring province of Oriental Negros to escape but he failed to catch a boat.
Because he could not leave Cebu, he instead hailed a motorcycle-for-hire and surrendered to the town police.
Senior Insp. Richard Oliver, Santander police chief, told Sun.Star Cebu yesterday that Doris Matmat-Abiso, 42, was Alberto’s second wife.
Alberto, he said, worked as a public school teacher in Oriental Negros, but moved to Santander with Doris sometime last year because she allegedly had an affair there.
Last Friday afternoon, the couple fought because Doris was reportedly caught for the second time with her alleged lover Victor Luang Basig, a truck boy.
Alberto allegedly chased and shot Basig twice but missed, so he went back and shot Doris in the right side of the chest instead, instantly killing her.
Two of the couple’s four children, aged seven and three, witnessed the incident.
Oliver said Basig also appeared before the police station and denied any relationship with Doris, claiming it was just a rumor.
Oliver said they are preparing parricide and attempted murder complaints against Alberto.
The couple’s children are now with Doris’ parents.
In Talisay City, a security guard stabbed his wife four times and hit her head with a rock in Sitio Kalma, Barangay Lawaan I past 9 p.m. Saturday.
SPO1 Oliver Dacua said jealousy drove Kelvin Cañada, 37, to kill his wife Haide, 33.
Kevin reportedly heard rumors that Haide was having an affair and confronted her about it.
During the argument, Kevin suddenly grabbed a knife and stabbed Haide several times in the back and right breast.
Neighbors told the police that the couple was arguing in their house when they suddenly heard Haide call for help and saw her run out of the house.
Because she was wounded, Haide staggered and fell down. Kevin, they said, then grabbed a rock and bludgeoned her in the head until her face was no longer recognizable.
Haide was still brought to the Talisay City District Hospital, where doctors declared her already dead.
The police arrested Kevin, who will be charged with parricide. (MEA)
