THIS chap has always been an artist at heart. As a young man he had a strange love affair with sunflowers.
The attraction to the flower’s irresistible glow inspired him to paint. Cesar Castillo is a member of the local group called Working Artists.
This organization is composed of artists who have day jobs. But Castillo can’t forever ignore the call of the muses to do art as a full-time profession.
After 19 years of devoted work at the San Miguel Corporation as a mechanical engineer, he applied for early retirement. He’s now going full blast by joining other artists in group shows and on-the-spot painting excursions.
In 1992, he enrolled in art class taught by Celso Pepito, then followed it up with lessons by Kimsoy Yap at the Cebu Art Academy in 2000.
As a painter, Castillo is comfortable with oil and pastel while watercolor seems to be his current favorite.
Castillo is relatively a new face in the art exhibition scene but his works have already been snatched by collectors and appreciated for the clarity of his paintings.
Watch him as he is set to take his art to more galleries and exhibitions around the city.
