Plate number of seized car issued to another unit: LTO

THE plate number of one of the vehicles recovered in Talisay City, Cebu last Friday turned out to have been issued for a Mitsubishi Pajero owned by a resident of Cagayan de Oro City.

Based Land Transportation Office (LTO) 7 records, the plate number YCG 881 belonged to a Mitsubishi Pajero owned by Arsenio S. Kho Jr. from Cagayan de Oro City.

The number was found on a Ford Everest unit recovered by members of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) 7 and Provincial Intelligence Branch in Talisay City.

The silver Ford Everest and a black Toyota Fortuner that carries plate number YDZ 961 were recovered by police in Barangay Dawis, Talisay City after receiving a report on the presence of the two cars.

The cars allegedly belonged to businessman Reynold dela Torre.

Angelito Castolo, one of dela Torre’s drivers, reportedly brought the two vehicles in Talisay.

Inquiry

Castolo was one of four drivers caught with the six vehicles earlier seized from a lot in Mandaue City.

Supt. Juanito Enguerra, deputy regional officer of the CIDG 7, said he will be sending a letter to Kho within the week to inquire why his plate number was used for another vehicle.

He is suspecting that Kho’s Pajero may have been stolen and that the plate number was attached to another vehicle.

Whoever will claim ownership of the Ford Everest, Enguerra said, will face a complaint of illegal transfer of a number plate.

According to the information gathered by Enguerra, the Pajero was first registered in Malaybalay, Bukidnon. The second registration was in Tagbilaran City, Bohol.

The third registration was in Cagayan de Oro City last Jan. 18.

The file number of the registration, however, is in Toledo City. This baffled LTO and CIDG7 officials.

Enguerra said the CIDG is still waiting for the resulting of the macro-etching examination conducted by the PNP Crime Laboratory 7. (JST)
