Laguna beats up Pagampan to pulp

ROEL Laguna was triumphant against Elmer Pagampan in a sixth round stoppage of their super bantamweight battle in the 1st Lionel Bacaltos Cup Sibonga Professional Boxing Showdown at the Bonifacio R. Bacaltos Sport and Cultural Centrum in Sibonga last Sunday.

The fight was stopped by ring physician Dr. Jose Unabia at the 2:08 mark after Pagampan of the Alfante Gym in Manila acquired a deep cut in his left eyebrow.

Both fighters exchanged hard blows in the fight that resulted in Pagampan to be knocked down twice and Laguna of the RWS Stable once.

Ranking

Laguna is ranked No.5 in the Philippines while Pagampan is ranked No.8.

Meanwhile, in the supporting bouts, Ryan Illustrisimo of the Chao Sy Stable stopped Jose Recafor-te of Aklan in a second round TKO victory, Arnel Donal of the Chao Sy Stable won against Dizon Cag-ong of Bato Leyte via majority decision, Benjie Espinosa of the Chao Sy Stable was victorious against Jastonie Pepito of Masbate via majority decision.

On the other hand, Guibangun Team was declared the overall champions of the five-day amateur boxing event.

Wins

Guibangun Team racked three gold medals, a silver, and a bronze while Babag took the 1st runnerup honors after three gold medals and two bronzes.

BBL grabbed the 2nd runnerup spot with two gold medals and Brgy. Sabang got the 3rd run-nerup honors with one gold, three silvers and a bronze medal.

The winners were awarded with P15,000 for the champion, P10,000 for the 1st runnerup, P7,000 for the 2nd runnerup and P5,000 for the 3rd runnerup. (EKA)
