Friday, August 08, 2008 Serna: SonicFlood concert - finally By Roger Serna: Sounds and images
ALTHOUGH the week-long anniversary celebration of the Province of Cebu is now almost winding up, the level of excitement is still high.
The Governor’s Ball, which will be held at the Capitol social hall tonight, is expected to draw Cebu’s VIPs who will don their formal wear or whatever they believe to be the most appropriate for the occasion.
I’d like to think that this is Cebu’s counterpart of the much talked about Oscar Awards where the celebrities try to outshine and out-glitter each other on the red carpet and beyond.

Finally, the venue has been provided for the local government units to prove which one is better or the best among the rest. This is the Pasigarbo sa Sugbo Festival of Festivals.
All Cebu festivals will be judged in terms of performance, costumes and other aspects. Around 33 contingents will be vying for the cool P1 million grand prize for the ritual showdown and the P500,000 grand prize for the street dancing competition.
Thatsalotsa money! Festival jingles will start playing around the Cebu International Convention Center at 1 p.m. tomorrow. The ritual showdown starts at 6 p.m.
You don’t want to be left out guessing who will give the best performance, who wore the most colorful and artistic costume, and all other questions, do you?

Ah, finally, the show of Sonic Flood will be onstage next Saturday, Aug. 16. It was originally slated a day before the very successful and well-attended show of Air Supply but was moved for one reason or another.
So for those who have been waiting with abated breaths, relax. It’s only a few days away. It will still be held at the Pacific grand ballroom of the Cebu City Waterfront Hotel.

Cebuanos have proven in many editions of the Pinoy Big Brother and in the first season of Pinoy Dream Academy (PDA) that their text votes really count. This was evidenced by the big winners and runners-up that their support have produced.
This time, that vaunted support for the fellow Cebuano is again put to the test as one of the two Cebuano bets in the PDASeason II has been put on probation.
Apple Abarquez, along with Miguel and Laarni, are in danger of being dropped from the student roll depending on who gets the lowest vote count.
Can we allow other regions of the country to outvote us? No way!

Last week I mentioned four upcoming models who will do the runway during the grand opening of Alibyo Boutique Spa. It will be held this afternoon.
Unfortunately, two of them have been dropped from the list for having “attitude problems.”
That early? Tsk, tsk. Bad. The four were supposed to compose the original roster of models of a newly organized talent agency that is going to be launched soon.
With the recent development, the two slots will be given to other promising aspirants who can show professionalism even at an early stage.
Who were retained? That can be answered during the opening of Alibyo Boutique Spa located at the second floor of i2 Building at the Asiatown IT Park.
The Filipino hilot process will be shown in dance form by selected therapists of the spa. The Filipiniana motif and dress code will be in the limelight once again to enhance the Filipino touch and relaxation techniques that the spa is promoting.

A week-long workshop on digital video making is slated on Aug. 26-31 in Cebu City with the multi-awarded stage and film director, educator, trainer and lecturer Arsenio ‘Nick’ Lizaso as mentor.
This is organized by the Asian Environmental Resource Center (AERC), the ITI-Unesco Center for Cebu, and is aimed at developing young Filipino talents in digital media production to address the prevailing environmental issues with the use of digital communication.
Subjects related to environment awareness and nature conservation are the focus of the participants’ video outputs. Slots for the workshop are limited and so interested parties are advised to reserve in advance through 2552990, 2537620 or 2674402.
