‘Byron deserves Garbo award more than Pablo, Winston’

‘Byron deserves Garbo award more than Pablo, Winston’

BYRON Garcia deserves the “Garbo sa Sugbo” award more than his brother and father, businessman Cris Saavedra said yesterday.

Saavedra said Byron deserves the award, given last night, for the dancing prisoners of the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center (CPDRC), who have
become popular in the video sharing website YouTube.

“Byron deserves the award. The dancing prisoners... that’s the first time in history and it’s only here in Cebu,” said Saavedra.
He said Byron is a victim of “discrimination.”

The Cebu Provincial Government awarded outstanding individuals last night, including Rep. Pablo Garcia (Cebu, 2nd district) and Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) president and general manager Winston Garcia.

Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia said her father Pablo and younger brother Winston deserve the award.

“It would be controversial if they do not deserve it (award). It just so happened their family name is Garcia,” the governor earlier said.

Saavedra said Winston “has not done something for Cebu, he is in Manila.”

He also said that if there is a former governor who deserves the award, it is not Pablo but Lito Osmeña.

“Osmeña was able to generate P2 billion for the province, which the governor (Gwendolyn) now is bragging about,” said Saavedra.

Saavedra also believes the Regional Development Council (RDC), which Gwendolyn heads, has no personality to question the Mactan North Reclamation and Development Project (MNRDP).

“Why should they ask approval from the RDC and the governor when she herself did not ask approval for the Cebu International Convention Center?” he asked.

The businessman also said the RDC has no authority to question a project that already has the approval of the President.

Lapu-Lapu City Government officials said President Arroyo already approved the project.

But Reps. Pablo and Pablo John Garcia (Cebu, 3rd district) said they would not believe it until the city can show documents to prove its claim. (JGA)
