Monday, August 11, 2008 Costanilla: Video-making workshop, anyone? By Sam Costanilla Spotlight
YOURS truly has tapped Manila-based, multi-awarded stage and film director, and educator Nick Lizaso to conduct a digital video production workshop in Cebu from Aug. 26-31. Direk Nick, as I call him, will lead a team of seasoned media production practitioners from Manila in doing the five-day video-making workshop. This activity is organized by the Asian Environmental Resource Center’s International Theater Institute-Unesco whose Cebu coordinator is this writer. My very good friend Dr. Mike Nuñez is president and dean of the center where, according to him, practice reshapes theory.

THE coming workshop aims to develop a cadre of young Cebuano/Visayan talents in the field of digital media production. It will help all of them address prevailing environmental issues. Our workshop will actually encompass all aspects of digital video production, scriptwriting, production design, videography and directing. We all know that there are a lot of talented Cebuanos here, so their participation or involvement is badly needed. And because we have limited seats, let me advise interested participants to call 255-7990, 253-7260 or 267-4402 right away.

THE Cebu Association of Media Practitioners (Camp) is now under a brand-new set of officers after a general assembly and election at an uptown restaurant. Jun Alcover has been elected president while this writer was chosen as vice president.
Broadcaster Max Andrino, Ed Batiquin and former Customs Collector David Odilao Jr. have been elected as secretary, treasurer and auditor, respectively. Efren Lonzon of Sun.Star Superbalita, Jess Villarba of Bantay Radyo and Ondo Mantilla of dyLA are the club’s press relations officers.
Composing the board of directors are radiomen Jun Basadre, Nelson Monterde Rubio, Louie Reyes, Loy Jurado, Ely Camomot, Dan Nolasco and Jun Juezan.

CAMP didn’t function for one whole year because its former “president” didn’t do his task. In the first place, he didn’t take his oath after his election. Under Alcover’s leadership we, his co-officers, are determined to reengineer Camp and recover its lost image and credibility.

TO say that Gov. Gwen Garcia’s Suroy-Suroy Sugbo (SSS) is a waste of money is a childish statement that should only be said by somebody whose insecurity is his number one problem. The provincial government’s tourism program has greatly benefited the towns and cities — and all tourists that have visited them could confirm this claim.

IS it true that this husband-and-wife tandem will soon be ordered by management to stop their local television show? Is it also true that all the staff and personnel are against the couple’s joining the network? Just asking. (E-mail: samcost@yahoo.com or text 09268443888)
