Cebu cops lend a hand for elections in ARMM

A COMPANY from the Regional Mobile Group (RMG) 7 was sent to Mindanao yesterday to augment the forces tasked to secure today’s special elections in the Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao (ARMM).

Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 Director Ronald Roderos confirmed the deployment of 100 officers.

Roderos told Sun.Star Cebu yesterday that the RMG company will be sent to Region 12 based in General Santos City “for normal law enforcement functions.”

This is because the RMG 12 companies have been sent to ARMM to aid in the security arrangements of the special elections and to help ease the tension surrounding the aborted signing of the Bangsamoro Juridical Entity deal.

Roderos said he received the orders from PNP Chief Avelino Razon Jr. Saturday night.

Aside from PRO 7, RMG companies from Eastern and Western Visayas were also ordered to send augmentation.

Roderos said that as PNP chief, Razon has the authority to deploy personnel from one region to another.

The RMG company from Central Visayas will be led by Supt. Herman Lungayan and two other officers.

Initially, they were told they would be staying there for a week although this may be extended, depending on orders from higher headquarters.

Roderos said they will also be bringing with them their police vehicles, firearms and communication equipment.

The RMG was sent to General Santos City to fill the vacuum left behind by Region 12’s RMG companies.

He also said the company was an all-male company. (MEA)
