Tuesday, August 12, 2008 Espina: Fun, food and fanfare! By Mila C. Espina In my diary
My friend Alice Woolbright Fernandez was so excited about the annual “Fourth of July Fil-American Dinner Fellowship,” which I missed for the first time this year. “It was fun, fun, fun,” said Michael Go, who emceed the show, and Cherrypie Callelero, the game master. Even John Domingo thought it was fantastic! While in Xiamen, I kept on thinking about the fun I was missing.
The photos on this page reveal more than what words can say.
An American broadcaster (the name escaped me) remarked how America is threatened with the “Triple F” or finances, food and fuel! This global crisis is also felt in Cebu but we are coping. Call it creativity and industry. I attended the opening of the Café Laguna at SM Northwing. We had delicious food and the price list was affordable. We discovered Café Laguna when it was still a small restaurant located in a small apartment in Lahug. People liked the food and service, and thereafter, they were frequenting Ayala Mall to have their favorite dish at its branch there. Guess, Café Laguna served as a “come-on” when Ayala was hardly drawing the crowd. The present location at SM Northwing is very accessible, very near the parking area.
Of course, the Urbina brand of food is seen in the success of the Laguna Garden and the Lemon Grass.
Fanfare and solemnity characterized the opening of the series of worthy events to celebrate the 439th founding anniversary of the Province Of Cebu.
History was witness to how Cebu grew from the era of Miguel Lopez de Legazpi (1569-1571) to the present leadership of Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia.
The Governor’s Ball held on Aug. 8, which featured the historic milestones of the Province and the weeklong One Cebu, Our Destiny, grand trade exposition were among the highlights which tested the unifying initiative of all sectors to put up a larger than life events.
