Tuesday, August 12, 2008 Speak out: Not working By Joe Lopez
THE inconvenience that was encountered last December due to Pasko sa Colon is back with the Night Market in Colon. The project of Vice Mayor Mike Rama is for the Downtown Revitalization Project, which is giving the opposite effect. Vehicles are not allowed to pass Colon St. and stalls are being placed instead for the collection of P4,500 per stall. The City Government is clearing sidewalk vendors but now vendors are placed in the middle of the street of Colon.
It is hard to buy things needed in Colon and also to get a ride on the jeepneys or taxis. As I strolled along Colon St. I had observed that all business establishments are affected; almost all do not have business transactions. With this situation, do you think this night market is helping Colon St.? Absolutely No. I sympathize with the business establishments on Colon St.
I hope the problem that Colon is now suffering will be brought to the attention of the City Government and be resolved in the shortest time possible. The Night Market should not be held in Colon.
