THE Chai-Chai squad of Carcar City got the lucky break against the tired and weary Poblacion-Talisay nine, 5-4, to bag the 2008 Sibonga Mayor Leonil R. Bacaltos Softball Cup at the Sibonga town plaza Sunday afternoon.
Chai-Chai banked on an early 5-1 lead at the top of the third inning and hung tough to win the top prize of P6,000.
Poblacion-Talisay however labored hard after finishing the elimination round of the six-week long tournament at the No.2 spot in Bracket B.
While Chai-Chai had the luxury of waiting for their opponent after beating Masong Brothers in the battle of the No.1 and the automatic championship slot, Poblacion-Talisay needed two more wins to make the championship round.
After Chai-Chai defeated Masong Bros, 6-5, Poblacion-Talisay followed suit with a 7-4 win over another Carcar City squad Baraca in the other semifinal game.
Poblacion-Talisay needed an extra inning to beat the Punta Princesa-based Masong Bros, 6-5.
With the Talisay City team exhausted and tired, Chai-Chai jumped to a hot start and held the opponent scoreless in the final inning to win the title. (RCM)
