Friday, August 15, 2008 Lengthy drama By Clint Holton P. Potestas
SKIRTS down to the floor.
Whatever context of style you are concentrating on, it is never in the size that matters but the length.
Donna Karan, a New York-based fashion designer, supports this idea in her interview with Fashion TV: “For the current season, I’d love to work on floor-length dresses for they give a dramatic impact. So, ladies, skirts down to the floor.”
At the Governor’s Ball, Live! spotted different interpretations of the dramatic lengths that Karan was referring to. Guests arrived in long gowns made by Cebuano fashion emperors.
All eyes were on Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia who was wearing an off-the-shoulder gown in coral by Philip Rodriguez. Layering the fabric, he converged two elements: fun and feminine. The gown was a definite stand-out.
However, the Governor’s daughter, lawyer Christina Garcia, chose a mini dress with draping and embroidery designed by Kate Torralba. It was her take on sultriness and elegance.
Aside from her style ingenuity and ideas, Christina admires Torralba’s success in the capital city, saying: “Her success in the fashion industry, through her talent, ingenuity, and sheer determination makes her a true garbo sa Sugbo (pride of Cebu).”
Michelle, daughter-in-law of Gov. Gwen Garcia choose a figure-hugging glittery number, which she got in the USA.
Congress representative Nerissa Soon-Ruiz, in a cobalt blue Philip Rodriguez gown, said she felt confident wearing the empire cut dress for it exuded femininity and balance.
Gems were used to accentuate the regal concept. Businesswoman Mariquita Yeung wore a two-piece number from the House of Dior.
