PMS chief to assume as head of immigration in Visayas

THE chief of the Presidential Management Staff (PMS) yesterday assumed as assistant to the commissioner of the Bureau of Immigration commissioner (BI)-Visayas and director for Central Visayas.

Assistant Secretary Romeo “Butch” Junia replaced Reynaldo Almaden who is assigned as alien control officer (ACO) for Cebu.

Junia, who is holding office at the Office of Commissioner Marcelino Libanan at the Cebu immigration office in Mandaue City, will supervise the immigration offices in Regions 6, 7 and 8.

Junia will supervise areas in Cebu, Mactan-Cebu International Airport; Tagbilaran City, Bohol; Dumaguete City, Oriental Negros; and Siquijor.

He will monitor the implementation of BI policies, regulations programs and projects.

He will also monitor all immigration sub-ports and other BI offices and personnel in Cebu and the entire Visayas.

“I’m on detail to the Bureau of Immigration from the Presidential Management Staff where I am an assistant secretary; and until the end of July, I was the chief of staff of Secretary Cerge Remonde,” Junia said.

From just being a border patrol, the agency now helps promote foreign investments, Junia said.

He said this is the thrust Libanan has introduced in the bureau and he has not plans of changing its policies and programs. (EOB)
