Saturday, August 16, 2008 Business-friendly LGUs aimed in GTZ project
EIGHT towns and three cities in Cebu were identified to have their business permit and licensing processes streamlined under the Business Permit and Licensing System (BPLS) project of the German Technical Cooperation (GTZ).
In the north, the project will include the towns of Consolacion, Liloan, Compostela, Cordova and Danao City.
While Minglanilla, San Fernando, Moalboal and the cities of Talisay, Naga and Carcar will be the beneficiaries in southern Cebu.
This was revealed yesterday by GTZ’s coordinator for Central Visayas, Miriam Bacalso during the signing of the memorandum of understanding (MOU) activity at the Marco Polo Plaza Cebu.
The MOU was signed by representatives from GTZ, the Department of Trade and Industry DTI, the Department of Interior and Local Government and the Cebu City government, headed by Mayor Tomas Osmeña.
The MOU, said Bacalso, shows the commitment of the different agencies to support the streamlining of the business permit and licensing systems as a “one step towards the improvement of their services to the business sector.”
Model system
The Cebu City government’s BPLS will serve as a model system to the other LGUs.
In an interview with Sun.Star Cebu, Bacalso said the GTZ team has set a goal to set up a business one-stop shop in the different LGUs by January next year.
But since the program is a continuous endeavor, Bacalso said GTZ will still be there to assist in identifying ways and areas to streamline an LGU’s BPLS should there be any updates that might affect the processes.
DTI 7 Director Asteria Caberte said her agency will provide technical assistance to the LGUs in the implementation of the project.
Four areas in Bohol and Oriental Negros and two towns in Siquijor were also identified as beneficiaries of the program
The BPLS project is also being simultaneously implemented in the Western Visayas region. (DME)
