Sunday, August 17, 2008 Chief tanod admits to killing pal, surrenders
THE chief of barangay tanods in a village in Danao City surrendered to local police after admitting to stabbing his best friend to death.
Jimmy Buenaura Dagatan, 53, surrendered to the Danao City Police Station at 11 p.m. Friday after killing Cesario Giangco, 63, in Barangay Quisol, Danao City.
Dagatan and Giangco had been drinking in front of a store owned by Maria Clara Ochea before they decided to call it a night.
On their way home, Dagatan confided in Giangco that he had an argument with his father-in-law.
Giangco reportedly wanted him to go to his father-in-law to apologize and straighten out their differences.
But Dagatan said that he wanted to wait for the upcoming fiesta in Barangay Quisol to say sorry. This started the argument.
Dagatan said Giangco forced him and when Dagatan continued to decline, Giangco allegedly dragged him to the ground and began hitting him.
Dagatan said Giangco was heavier than him and that he could not hit Giangco back.
This prompted him to grab a knife from Giangco and stab him.
Giangco suffered four stab wounds in his chest and on his right arm and died on the spot.
Dagatan then proceeded to the Danao City Police Station to inform them that he had stabbed Giangan.
SPO2 Ramir Oliverio and his companions proceeded to the area and recovered a .38 revolver loaded with five bullets and a bloodied knife that was still in its scabbard.
Dagatan is now detained at the Danao City Police Station. (MEA)
