IN THE battle for survival, the Don Bosco College Greywolves came out the better of the bottom feeders as they put up a last-minute surge to run away with an 83-71 win over Cebu Institute of Technology Wildcats in the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc (Cesafi) collegiate basketball competitions yesterday at the Cebu Coliseum.
The Greywolves barged into the win column after losing to University of the Visayas Green Lancers in their first outing, while CIT dropped to a 1-2 win-loss slate.
For the past seasons, the bottom of the standing had always been a toss between DBC and CIT.
In yesterday’s game, Don Bosco played without much intensity, lagging for most of the game. They were down by eight, 56-64, at the start of the fourth period, when the Greywolves were jolted back to life when Rodolfo Enterina and Celso Colegado anchored a 15-4 run, that basically turned the game around.
The Greywolves found themselves ahead for the first time , 71-67 rattiling the Wildcats that they failed to answer DBC’s furious rally.
Christopher dela Rama led the Greywolves scorers with 16 points, while Colegado added 14. Paolo Lumapas added 13 points.
As boring as the seniors match was, it was a totally different scenario in the juniors division as the CIT Wildkittens overpowered the University of San Jose-Recoletos Jaguars, 107-101, in overtime.
The CIT juniors squad had the win within reach as they led by three points in the final five seconds of the game, but USJ-R pulled through behind a buzzer-beating halfcourt triple from Patrick Bayno to force an extension. MCB
CIT looked to Mark Tallo Jr., the son of former PBA player with the same name, as he led the team to the victory.
Don Bosco juniors team also posted its first victory after trouncing the Cebu Eastern College Dragons, 80-75. (MCB)
