Sun.Star economic forum set; BPO players to tackle issues

STAKEHOLDERS in the business process outsour-cing industry in Cebu are expected to participate in the Sun.Star Economic Forum to be held tomorrow at the Parklane International Hotel.

The forum, set to begin at 8 a.m. with the registration of participants, will feature prominent local, national and international figures in the business process outsourcing (BPO).

In the first part of the forum, Cebu Educational Development Foundation for Information Technology (CEDF-IT) president Bonifacio Belen will present the future of BPOs in Cebu and in the country.

Belen, who also has extensive knowledge of information technology (IT) being president of the Software Interface Management and Outsourcing Network at the same time, can also provide insights on IT outsourcing services as a type of BPO.

His presentation will be followed by Business Processing Association of the Philippines (BPA/P) chief executive officer Oscar Sañez, who will lay out the various challenges that BPOs are facing today.

Growth targets

As the head of BPA/P, he is responsible for leading the development and execution of the organiza-tion’s strategic plans and delivering the industry’s growth targets.

After Sañez, Yogesh Malhotra, Philippine lead for Accenture’s Delivery Center Network for BPO, will present the various opportunities available for outsourcing professionals.

Malhotra brings extensive experience in sales and relationship management transitions, operations and quality to his role as the lead for Accenture’s Delivery Center Network for BPO in the Philippines.

The second part of the Sun.Star Economic Forum will be an opportunity for stakeholders and various interested parties to tackle specific concerns in parallel sessions with industry leaders. The parallel sessions will also offer the opportunity for groups or individuals to take part in forming advocacies that will sustain the growth of the BPO industry in Cebu.

There will be three parallel sessions to be held after lunch. The parallel sessions will be based on the issues raised by the three speakers: forecasts on the BPO industry; challenges facing BPOs, and; employment opportunities for outsourcing professionals.

The Sun.Star Economic Forum is an annual presentation and discussion of economic issues and business opportunities in Cebu.

Sun.Star picked BPO as the subject of this year’s economic forum, considering the continuous growth of the industry. (PR)
