Tuesday, August 19, 2008 Quintessence By Ritchie Landis Doner Quijano
TO attain the state of being in quintessence is to become the purest of something or of your kind. Such is the very essence the Fine Arts students of the University of San Carlos (USC) attempted to search and unravel.
A group of budding artists from the school pooled together their resources and talent to come up with a show that is far from the usual exhibits of "graded class plates." The students showed their boldness for having the desire to purify art. The paintings were a total gesture of absolute expression. Doing away with form, figurations (i.e. the act of representing with figures), pictorial sceneries and literal interpretations was a brave way for the much needed break fromthe usual art produced by graduates of USC.
The group show, appropriately entitled "Quintessential," is ongoing at the Banilad Town Center. Student initiatives like this one tell of their seriousness toward the abstraction genre.
I am always delighted to see new faces doing their share to keep the art scene alive and vibrant. Keep up the good work and make your school proud.
