Wednesday, August 20, 2008 4 officers willing to prove Joavan wasn’t around
FOUR police officers are willing to undergo a polygraph test if only to prove that Joavan Fernandez was not around when they responded to a call for help in the mauling case against two vulcanizing shop workers.
Cebu Provincial Police Office Director Carmelo Valmoria said the four policemen told him Friday that they also did not force Oscar Abellana to sign an affidavit clearing Joavan.
They claimed they only asked him to sign an affidavit because they were being investigated for allegedly not arresting Joavan when they responded to the alarm.
They wanted him to attest that Joavan was not there.
Reliable
Though the results of a polygraph test are not admissible in court, Valmoria said the outcome is 99 percent reliable and will aid them in their investigation.
The four policemen are PO3s Edwin Alvara-do, Ferdinand Pablo, and Arnold Donasco and PO1 Francisco Gorosin.
Valmoria said the four also want Abellana to take the same test “to straight-en everything out.”
He assured that the investigation would continue to find out if indeed they did not arrest Joavan.
As to Joavan’s alleged visit to the Talisay City Police Station twice while he was being pursued, Valmoria said this was something they were still looking into.
Also, he clarified there was an attempt to hide the report of Joavan’s latest case, saying Supt. Romeo Perigo immediately informed him after they learned of the incident Friday night.
He said those involved in the incident did not want to give a statement to the police.
“We need to get their affidavits to support the filing of the case,” he told reporters.
Aside from the workers of the gas station, Valmoria said they also wanted to get the statement of the owner.
He said they “invited and convinced” the pump boys and their supervisor to execute affidavits but they were relying on their owner. They also reportedly asked for the contact number of the owner, but the workers would not give it to the police. (MEA)
