Wednesday, August 20, 2008 Rama: A single-stack comeback By Karlon N. Rama Stage Five
SINGLE-stack nineteen-elevens are back into vogue in the competition circuit here in Cebu after all, but going the way of the dinosaur when high-capacity pistols began appearing in the gun stores many years back.
Most large practical shooting events now have awards for the top scoring single-stack shooter on top of the winners in the standard, production, open and modified events. Some even add sub-categories like the highest ranking female, senior and super-senior single-stack competitor.
And on Sept. 5 to 7, the Cebu Pistol and Rifle Association (CPRA) will host a match open only to single-stack and revolver shooters, calling it the Mamang Pulis Single Stack and Revolver Classic.
I have not yet received a copy of the course of fire. However, having shot single-stack a number of times, I’m sure the event will be quite exciting.
The level of challenge simply goes all the way up when shooting single-stack. To start with, a shooter only has eight or nine rounds—depending on the magazine being used and the starting condition required—at the ready when the start signal blares.
