Sports scribes group to hold quiz, P50T at stake

EXCITING prizes amounting to P50,000 are at stake for the winners of the 1st Sportwriters Association of Cebu (SAC)-Hapee Sports Quiz set on Sept. 27 at the Ayala Center Cebu Activity Center.

Presented by Lamoiyan Industries Corporation, the manufacturer of Hapee Toothpaste, in partnership with RichMedia Digital Ads managed by Jeremy Ryan L. Huang, the event is the first major undertaking of SAC under the flagship of John Owen Z. Pages and is one of the highlights of next month’s Press Freedom Week celebration.

Forefront

“The sportswriters are at the forefront in inciting sports interest among the youth and we are here to compliment that effort,” said noted sports patron Jack Huang of Hapee during yesterday’s launching of the event at Cage Laguna in Ayala. “Also, we want to let everyone know that there are entities which are very supportive to such worthwhile project.”

The competition is open to all high school students both from public and private institutions in Cebu. Questions are classified into their degree of difficulty. Five points will be awarded to every correct answer in the easy round, 10 in the average, and 20 in the difficult level.

“The Sports Quiz is another good project that will promote sports to the youth, in particular, the high school students,” said Pages earlier.

Awards

The champion will receive an ASUS laptop, while the second and third placers will get mobile phones.

MP3 players will he handed out to the fourth and fifth finishers. Plaques of recognition will also be given to the schools of the top three performers.

Non-winners will not go home empty-handed as they will receive gift packs and freebies from Hapee and other corporate backers.

History

SAC, an organization of sportscribes from Cebu’s three local dailies and two tabloids, has staged similar contest five years ago through the support of the now defunct Cebu Basketball Federation (CBF) of which Jack Huang was one of the founders.

Registration is free, but on a first-come-first-served basis as the organizers are limiting the number of participants to only 30.
