2 birthdays and a wedding
By Chinggay V. Utzurrum
The scene

PLANTATION Bay’s poolside gazebo was the romantic setting for the wedding of US-based sweethearts Dalmar Duran and Mimi Colina. Their altar date had to be pre-arranged here by relatives from Dumaguete and Cebu.

As if on cue, the late afternoon affair had an idyllic backdrop with the setting sun casting a spectrum of sunset hues on a darkening sky.

On this note, the bridal entourage marched on a rose-covered, red carpet preceding the ecumenical, Christian rites officiated by a Christian pastor and a Catholic priest.

Echoing the silver-grey color theme were the clothes of the maid of honor, bridesmaids and the madrinas and padrinos. The bride herself was garbed in a satin gown, custom-made in the US. The groom, Dalmar, chose a suit by Ronald Enrico.

Efficient wedding coordinator Connie Te saw to every detail including the floral arrangements by Heavenly Blooms, party hosting by Junnie Tampos, lead vocalist of On the Cover Band, the sparkling Tivoli lights, immaculate drapery, decorative candles and post-wedding entertainment.

Happy landing, lovebirds!

Our colleague Flor Ynclino chose the succulent, native delicacies of Laguna Garden Café for her birthday bash. Everyone who’s anyone in Flor’s wish list was there: dear hubby Fermin, children, members of her prayer and professional groups, media friends, etc.

At about this time of year, too, she’s scheduled to depart on her annual US trip. So, is this also a despedida, Flor?

For Ivan Joseph Garcia-Malixi, two-year old prince of Sari Jeanne Garcia and Gerry Malixi, nothing was spared to make the celebrant’s red-letter day; nothing short of spectacular.

With the setting at Plantation Bay Resort and Spa, Ivan was speechless with joy and wonder at the presents, balloons, cake and most of all, the love and warmth that his parents and lolo Tony and lola Lucy showered upon him.

We remember Ivan’s first birthday party was held at Cinderella’s Castle in Hong Kong Disneyland last year.

We look forward to your 3rd anniversary, Ivan, meantime, be happy!

The “Sunny Side of Mactan” is not a beach party, although the plush setting was Shangri-La’s Mactan Island Resort and Spa.

It was Lapu-Lapu City’s proud tribute to its 18 new and top-notch investors, and the venue was the resort’s Marquee. The hosts were Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Arturo Radaza, and wife Paz.

To rattle off some names, there were tycoons, Taipans, officers-in-charge, and top guns from Philippine Business For Social Progress, Aboitizland, MSY Holdings, Gochan Realty, Hilton Resort and Spa, Shangri-La, Filinvest, Microtel, etc.

Mayor Radaza had reason for that sunny smile as almost P10 billion in investments were poured into the city by these large-scale conglomerates.

Same time next year, Mayor?
