CONCERNED about peace in Mindanao, Vice Mayors’ League of the Philippines (VLMP) board members are meeting in two weeks to discuss how they can help.
Cebu City Vice Mayor Michael Rama said they will gather in Davao City on Sept. 4 to 6 for a meeting, and will have the Mindanao situation as their primary topic of discussion.
They will have vice mayors of the affected LGUs join the board meeting.
The National Government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) almost signed an agreement to expand an
autonomous region for Muslims, if not for a Supreme Court order.
Rama spoke with Vice Mayor Henry Dy of Iligan City and was told that constituents of only a few of the affected barangays were consulted.
The VMLP, Rama added, can help create “an atmosphere of utmost goodwill” and provide the venue for the contending parties to meet and settle the conflict peacefully.
He said they will make an official stand on the MOA and the conflict after the Davao meeting. (RHM)
