Barrita: Loose cannon
By Eddie O. Barrita
Small Bites

JOAVAN Fernandez, adopted son of Talisay City Mayor Socrates “Brod Soc” Fernandez, has become a pain in the neck for many Talisaynons.

He has had brushes with the law but was said to be armed only with a toy gun.

What, a loose cannon armed only with a toy gun?

***

How can you solve a problem like Joavan?

Send him to drug rehab, Rep. Eduardo Gullas, undisputed political overlord of Cebu’s first district, told Brod Soc.

Exile is out as an option--–he’s no Jose Rizal or a Ninoy Aquino.

***

“Enough is enough. This is too much,” Rep. Gullas said of Joavan.

With Joavan in drug rehab, he said Brod Soc and the rest of the Talisaynons will have peace of mind.

Outside, he’s subject to violent reprisals or he might meet his match.

***

Talisay City Police Chief Romeo Perigo may find himself in hot water for treating Joavan with kid gloves or for his failure to arrest him.

“It is okay for Perigo because he lives in Lapu-Lapu City. But how about the Talisaynons?” Rep. Gullas said.
I hope Chief Perigo will still have his peace of mind.

The Commission on Audit (COA) called illegal the release of P1,000 “anniversary bonus” to each of Cebu provincial jail’s 1,600 “dancing inmates.”

Well, Capitol now calls it an incentive for the inmates whose dancing “brought Cebu to the world.”

State auditors should consider mass dancing is difficult but the inmates practiced so hard for fear Capitol consultant Byron Garcia might release them if they don’t know how to dance.

Government has put up a P5-million bounty each on the head of renegade Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) commanders Abdullah Macapaar alias Kumander Bravo and Ameril Umbra Kato.

I doubt if they will be able to snare these elusive MILF commanders.

Why not allow the two to turn themselves in and give them half the bounty?
