Talisay fire causes P800T damages

TWO houses, a car and an electronics shop were damaged in a fire that hit a barangay in Talisay City yesterday morning.

The Talisay City Fire Station received a call for assistance at 9:50 a.m. on a fire in Sitio Kimba, Barangay Cansojong.

Two houses belonging to Lucres Codilla and Danilo Daan were already on fire. Both structures were made of light materials.

SFO2 Marcial Vilvestre told Sun.Star Cebu yesterday that the fire originated from the room of Marcial Mica, a housemaid who worked for Daan. An investigation conducted by SFO1 Eulogio Abeller indicated that an unattended candle caused the blaze.

After it razed the two houses, the fire also spread to an electronics shop owned by Daan. It also damaged a Mitsubishi Gallant parked nearby.

Vilvestre said the fire was controlled in three minutes but it took them until 10:30 a.m. to declare the fire completely extinguished.

No one was wounded in the fire. Damage to property was placed at P800,000.

Last Thursday night, a house in a hilly village in Ronda town was set on fire by still unknown people.

The house in Sitio Salay, Barangay Butong is owned by Ricardo Gimena, who was not around when the fire broke out past 9 p.m.

PO1 Benedicto Rubia said Gimena was in Cebu. He said investigators are looking into the possibility that someone who held grudges against him was behind the fire.

Neighbors tried to douse the flames but they heard a series of gunshots, forcing them to stay away.

The house was made of light materials and the estimate of the damage was placed at P30,000.

Rubia said the house had no electric connections, which led them to the possibility of arson.

By the time the fire truck arrived, the house was already razed.

Rubia said they could not yet determine what firearm was used. (MEA)
