One of the most auspicious events at the Casino Español recently was the marking of the Dia De Santiago, Feast of St. James, a much-celebrated fiesta in España, which doesn’t happen every year. No less than the Spanish Ambassador to the Philippines, Don Luis Arias and his lady Doña Soledad Arias, graced the affair.
After the welcome remarks by Casino Español president, Manuel Sainz, the good-natured dignitary gave a warm address that endeared him to the Cebuanos. The 400 years of Spanish colonization of the Philippines has indeed influenced not only the history, but also the language, lifestyle and culture of the locals.
A toast, salud y pesetas, was made by the Ambassador and Honorary Consul of Spain in Cebu, Don Jaime Picornell for continued amicable ties between our countries.
Very visible during the muy sabroso (very savory, tasty, flavorful) menu and collecting praises and kudos was Casino GM, Ed Tongco, for this was no ordinary array of Spanish delicacies, but a thoroughly, meticulously-prepared, authentic menu, the likes of which we have not tasted at all!
But of course, Spanish vinos flowed during the pre-dinner cocktails, and through the night! Viva España!
When asked about their much-anticipated Zonta Int’l. Convention in Rotterdam, the returning Zontians of Cebu 2 were all praises for the super-well organized meet. Well, you can trust the Dutch for efficiency. Joking aside, you can also inquire about their Dutch treat!
