Loot tells Corro: Don’t tarnish town’s image
AS DAANBANTAYAN prepares for its Haladaya Festival on Saturday, Vice Mayor Ma. Luisa Loot asked the camp of mayoral candidate Augusto Corro not to do anything that might tarnish the town’s tourism industry.
While her lawyer has yet to file their written opposition to stop the court from implementing its judgment in favor of Corro, Loot appealed for a peaceful resolution of the conflict.
But Corro, through his sister-lawyer Liza Corro, said that the Loots were the ones sowing resentment in town.
Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 Director Ronald Roderos is optimistic no violent clashes between the supporters of Daanbantayan Mayor Sun Shimura and Corro will erupt, after getting assurances from both parties that they will “not inflame emotions.”
Pledge
Roderos said he spoke with Corro and his legal counsel, as well as Senior Supt. Vicente Loot, husband of Daanbantayan Vice Mayor Loot, about the political dispute.
Senior Supt. Loot promised not to get involved, despite his “personal duties” to his wife and son, Roderos said.
Bogo City Regional Trial Court (RTC) Judge Antonio Marigomen earlier gave Daanbantayan Mayor Sun Shimura and Loot, his mother and vice mayor, until tomorrow to file a written opposition to the Corro camp’s bid for a writ of execution.
Citing Judge Marigomen’s ruling, Corro and Dr. Jose de Leon Jr. have declared themselves before hundreds of supporters the town’s “duly elected” mayor and vice mayor.
Atty. Corro said it was untrue that the judge failed to appreciate the original ballots, saying that the Loots were merely trying to weaken the recent court ruling in favor of the Corro camp.
Ballots
In a statement faxed to Sun.Star Cebu last night, Corro said the court found out that the contested ballots are still “genuine” and these were thoroughly reviewed based on the grounds raised by the Loots.
Corro also dismissed insinuations about anomalies in some precincts.
Corro said they are willing to push their case all the way up to the Supreme Court.
Loot, for her part, reiterated her call for Corro to wait for the next election in 2010.
The court ruled that Corro won by a margin of 3,391 votes over Shimura. De Leon, for his part, was said to have won by 1,311 votes over Loot. (GMD/With JST)
