Thursday, August 28, 2008 Bulacao rules Battle of Champions
SOUTH District champion Brgy. Bulacao defeated its North counterpart Brgy. Mabolo 103-93 to win the 2008 Inter-Barangay Basketball Tournament “Battle of Champions,” organized by the Cebu City Sports Commission last Saturday at the Mabolo Sports Complex.
Bulacao got the best from Jayhad Dayanan who topped all scores with 28 points to lead the South squad to victory.
Bulacao opened the game with a 20-15 lead at the end of the first quarter and kept the slim lead at the turn, 44-40, when Edgardo Asignar and Frits Errlylson Dajalos were firing hot for Mabolo in the second.
The triumvirate of Dayanan, Mark Apa and John Paul Enriquez produced 21 points in the third to give Bulacao a double digit lead, 73-62, entering the final period.
Despite the efforts of Mabolo to salvage the game at home, Bulacao did not fold to win the title.
Apa finished with 24 points, while Jason James Gonzales added 20 for Bulacao’s win while Dajalos topped the losing squad with 25. (PR)
