Tomas fires 2 management team members for irregularities

CEBU City Mayor Tomas Osmeña has high respects for his management team, but recently, he advised two of them to resign because of irregularities in the discharge of their duties.

Osmeña confirmed yesterday that he asked two members of the mayor’s management team to resign from City Hall after they were found to have unsatisfactory performance.

Without an investigation on their alleged offense, the two male employees left their post.

One was caught tampering with his daily time record, while the other mishandled the mayor’s private funds.

He declined to name the employees.

Performance

“We have asked some people to resign for unsatisfactory performance, but no actual investigation has been conducted. One of the cases has nothing to do with money.

He was just caught fabricating the daily time record. The other one involves mishandling of private funds, my private funds, so it’s my discretion,” he told reporters.

Except for the two incidents, Osmeña said he is happy with the performance of the rest of the MMT. That is why he did not want to publicize the resignation or the offense of the two employees.

The MMT, composed of some 60 cum laude and magna cum laude graduates, fills up middle management positions in City Hall.

The mayor hired the first batch in April 2005 to help him reinvent City Hall and improve systems and services.

“I don’t want to make a big deal out of it because most of them are doing a good job. Many of them are being pirated because the reputation of the MMT is really good,” he said.

The MMT was also recently featured in the 40th anniversary book of the Ateneo Graduate School of Business titled the “Blue Way: Case Studies on Leadership, Strategy and Ethics,” which presented 15 models from the private and public sectors. (LCR)
