Friday, August 29, 2008 Speak out: Purchase of ambulance By Warren ‘Dong’ Pena DYKC Katarungan
It has been observed that a brand new mini van-ambulance was assigned to a barangay in Mandaue City.
It is not known, however, if other barangays in the city were given similar vehicles.
But whether or not other barangays were showered with the same blessing is not what matters most.
What is worrisome is the fact that the sides of the said ambulance conspicuously bear the name of an elected official of the city.
Even if the purchase of the said ambulance was made possible because of the effort exerted by the official concerned, that is not sufficient justification to place the official’s name on the vehicle.
Let it be emphasized that the people were the ones who elected the official into office.
Had it not been for that mandate, the official would not have been holding that position.
Is it not just and fitting, therefore, that the people should be the ones credited for the vehicle’s purchase?
On the other hand, the said official should also be commended, provided that the ambulance will really be used for official purposes.
