Saturday, August 30, 2008 CCCI eyes more trade missions to promote Cebu businesses
AS IT welcomes 30 new members, the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) commits to work toward becoming the choice chamber for Cebu-based enterprises.
This was the message of CCCI president Edward Gaisano, delivered by Clarito Fruelda, the cham-ber’s vice-president for external affairs and relations, during the group’s general membership meeting last Tuesday at the Teatro Casino Filipino of the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino. Gaisano could not make it to the event due to a prior commitment.
The CCCI bared its plan to undertake more trade missions “to countries where Cebu business has great potentials.”
Next month, member-companies of the chamber will be heading to South Africa while trade missions to Israel and India are also planned.
During the meeting, CCCI officials expressed the belief that the Cebu business environment continues to be a battlefield among different stakeholders. “The past months were times that tried businessmen’s soul,” said Fruelda.
With this, the chamber will continue to assist its members to become more modern and dynamic to survive the “demanding times.”
Meanwhile, CCCI’s environmental committee has developed a proactive thrust in advocating projects that will benefit the environment. The committee plans to conduct a tree planting activity. A proposal for the event will be submitted to the chamber’s board for review.
Together with the Department of the Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), the chamber will also support the development and protection of the Olango Bird Sanctuary into a tourist destination.
Last Tuesday, CCCI inducted its new members that included companies from the furniture, banking, tourism and manufacturing industries. (DME)
